  Our skin is the largest organ of our body. It is responsible for both mechanical protection and the execution of fundamental metabolic functions. In the middle layer, the dermis, collagen and elastin together form a network responsible for the elasticity of the skin. Equol belongs to the group of phytoestrogens found in soybeans, and it counteracts the aging process of the skin through positive epigenetic regulation. As so-called non-steroidal estrogens, they act on the same receptors as hormones, but do not trigger their side effects. They stimulate the skin’s own collagen and elastin production, smoothing the skin’s structure from the inside out. Epigallocatechin gallate is an extract from green tea; as an antioxidant, it intercepts free radicals before they can fully exert their damaging effect. This counteracts skin ageing and supports cell renewal. Pyrroloquinoline quinone (PQQ) also has an antioxidant effect and provides special protection against mitochondrial decomposition. Mitochondria are also referred to as the “powerhouses of the cell” because they provide indispensable energy to our cells. PQQ is therefore up to 5000 times more effective than other antioxidants, such as vitamin C, and thus ensures a fresh, radiant complexion. Malus Domestica is based on particularly long-lasting stem cells from the Uttwieler Spätlauber apple, which has become known for its exceptional shelf life without shrivelling or loss of flavour. This extract has been proven to promote the vitality and lifespan of skin stem cells, protects against environmental stress and thus significantly delays skin ageing. Algae extract, based on the biotechnologically produced microalgae Dunaliella salina, is particularly rich in minerals, carbohydrates and amino acids. Amino acids are essential for healthy skin, as they regulate almost all metabolic processes of the body. This active ingredient also protects and stimulates the mitochondria (‘power stations’) of the cell, recharging the skin with new energy and supplying it with essential building blocks.
